Our aim is to inspire and empower students to achieve mathematical excellence by fostering a deep understanding, appreciation, and enthusiasm for Maths. We aspire to equip every student with the skills and confidence necessary to apply mathematical concepts in real life situations and to become problem solvers in an ever-changing world.
Key Stage Three
In Key Stage 3 students will be developing and enhancing topics learnt in primary school alongside an increased focus on algebra and problem solving.
Examples of topics and skills taught across Key Stage 3 include:
- Number topics: Calculating using the 4 operations, BIDMAS, rounding, estimation, fractions and standard form
- Shape topics: Perimeter and area of 2D shapes, surface area and volume of 3D shapes, angles and Pythagoras theorem
- Data topics: Averages, graphs and charts (drawing and interpreting) and probability
- Algebra topics: Collecting like terms, forming expressions, expanding brackets and factorising
Key Stage Four
In Key Stage 4, GCSE students will be further developing existing skills and learning new more complex ones for their GCSE exams at the end of Year 11. They will build on the problem solving and critical thinking skills they will have developed at Key Stage 3 for longer answer questions.
Examples of GCSE topics include Pythagoras and Trigonometry, Compound interest and expanding and factorising quadratics.
