Students at Weston Secondary School are EMPOWERED to become inquisitive, independent, and articulate young people, ready to take on the challenges of the modern world and be the voice of their generation.
Passionate about harnessing the talents, potential and uniqueness of every student, our aim is to foster a culture where students expect more and achieve more through engaging text studies, diverse writing units, and Spoken Language opportunities. We want our students to master the three disciplines ‘Like a Scholar’.
We focus our reading exploration of the analysis of craft, impact and intentions, eventually moving towards students securing knowledge and skills to thrive when exploring GCSE content. Texts including non-fiction have been chosen to represent the breadth of the diverse literary landscape with each writer exploring aspects of society, history, and humanity.
When writing, our students are encouraged to find their voice so to communicate their message and elicit responses from readers and audiences, all the time making links back to the author’s intention.
We aim to foster a love of literature and curious minds who, when empowered, consider and question the world around them, being successful in future work and education endeavours.
As a department, we lead many events from reading festivals, journalism and creative clubs, World Book Day events, and celebration events, all aimed to promote a love for the subject.
