Dance at Weston Secondary School offers students the opportunity to develop confidence, creativity and physical well-being through a vibrant and inclusive curriculum. Dance supports students’ mental health, self-esteem and resilience, while developing valuable life skills such as communication, leadership and creativity, helping prepare them for further study, training or a wide range of future careers.

Key Stage Three

From Key Stage 3, students take part in practical, engaging lessons where they learn a wide range of dance styles, develop strong performance skills and explore how dances are created. Alongside improving coordination, fitness and expressive skills, students learn to work safely, collaboratively and respectfully, while gaining an understanding of dance from different cultures and traditions.

Key Stage Four

As students move into Key Stage 4, they can choose to study Dance as part of the Pearson BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Award in Performing Arts. This course builds on earlier learning and allows students to develop their technical skills through rehearsals, workshops and performances that reflect real-life professional practice. Students are encouraged to reflect on their progress, work effectively as part of a team and perform with confidence.
