At Weston Secondary School we want all our students to aspire to be the best they can be. To support academic development we provide opportunities for students to learn beyond the classroom or school learning space through a series of tasks. These tasks are designed to embed learning and deepen knowledge and understanding.

To ensure we can support students with knowledge acquisition across a wide range of subjects, and provide a range of different experiences, departments utilise a range of different online platforms and paper based work . To support clarity and consistency of expectations, all homework is shared via Bromcom.

It is crucial that students engage proactively with the work set by teachers to allow them to fulfil their full potential. We strongly encourage Parents and Carers to have conversations with their children about this work to reiterate its importance. Parents and carers can view tasks set through the MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) platform.

As a school we are mindful that our students have other commitments outside of school and recognise that personal development, such as attending clubs and groups is as important as academic achievement. To support an effective balance students will receive homework in line with the expectations below.

Frequency

Duration Frequency
Key Stage 3: Years 7,8 & 9 Minimum of 30 minutes Fortnightly
Key Stage 4: Years 10 & 11 Minimum of 45 minutes

Rewards

As a school, we believe in praising and rewarding those who demonstrate completion of the work set. Positive points will be added via Bromcom to reflect the student’s effort or achievement. Half termly rewards are in place for students in each year group with the highest homework positives.

Homework Club

We recognise that not all our students are able to complete work at home. To support our students, we offer homework club on Mondays and Wednesdays after school until 3:50 PM. Students have access to computers and a quiet space to complete their tasks.

Supporting at home

We recognise that supporting children at home with homework can be complex. The following link provide support and guidance for parents and carers.
