At Weston Secondary School, our aim is to ensure that every student develops the physical literacy, confidence, and enthusiasm needed to enjoy physical activity throughout their lives. We deliver a broad, balanced, and inclusive PE curriculum that meets the needs of all learners, inspiring a lifelong passion for sport and physical wellbeing. 

Students at Weston experience a wide range of physical activities and sports, giving them the opportunity to discover and develop their interests and talents. Our curriculum promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, resilience, and respect, supporting both personal and physical development. 

Activities offered include:
Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bench ball, Cricket, Dodgeball, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Health-Related Exercise, Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Rounders, Short Tennis, Softball, Table Tennis, Trampolining, Ultimate Frisbee, and Volleyball. 

More Than Just Sport 

PE at Weston Secondary is about developing the whole student. To reflect this, students are assessed across three key areas: 

  • Head – Knowledge, understanding, and the ability to apply learning 
  • Heart – Attitudes, teamwork, collaboration, and positive participation 
  • Hands – Physical literacy and competence across a variety of activities 

Key Stage Three

Year 7: Confident Mover 

Develop safe, confident movement and core physical literacy. 

Year 8: Passion & Character 

Build character and enthusiasm for PE while learning key rules and regulations. 

Year 9: Leading Others 

Develop leadership skills to prepare for life beyond school and KS4 options. 

Key Stage Four

During Key Stage 4, students move to an options-based PE curriculum, allowing them to focus on the activities they most enjoy and to support a healthy, active lifestyle beyond Weston.  

Key Stage Four Options 

Cambridge OCR Sport Studies includes a mix of individual and team sports, students may choose study Cambridge OCR Sport Studies as part of their options to further develop their knowledge and passion for sport. 

Year 10: Healthy & Happy for Life 

Explore independent choices that support lifelong health and wellbeing.  

Year 11: Independently Active 

Take ownership of personal activity and participation to prepare for life beyond school. 

Extra-Curricular Activities & School Fixtures

Our extensive extra‑curricular programme offers a wide range of after‑school activities that change termly. These include competitive team and individual sports, as well as social and participation‑based sessions designed to foster a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity. The PE department also seeks opportunities for trips, fixtures, and visits to sporting events to broaden students’ experiences.
