Easter Break

Dear parents/carers,

As we near the end of what has been a hugely successful Spring term at WSS, I would like to share with you some of our key
successes and highlights.

I have been immensely proud of how our students have maturely adopted the ‘Weston Way’ and continue to demonstrate our
Ready to Learn characteristics in and out of lessons. This has resulted in over 120,000 positive points awarded to our students
which is a 65% increase compared to the same time last year.

This culture of positivity and praise has led to a 3.8% increase in whole school attendance. What a fantastic achievement,
demonstrating that our students are enjoying coming to school and engaging in the lessons delivered by our inspirational teachers.
Your support has been invaluable this term, in our last two parent’s evenings we have seen attendance to those evenings increase
by nearly 40%. You will have noticed an increase in activity on our social media streams and on our new website. We are working
hard to keep you well informed with school life and share celebrations of staff and students’ achievements and experiences.
Earlier this year, I made a commitment to developing the culture of reading at the school. I have been delighted with the increase
in students accessing our well-resourced library. This was evident recently during World Book Day with many students doing book
swaps and book lucky dips. It was a great example of how our staff and students come together to celebrate the importance of
reading.

What never ceases to amaze me is the commitment of WSS staff. They go the extra mile to provide your children with opportunities
that extend beyond the National Curriculum such as Geography field trips, Royal Navy activities, theatre trips and extra-curricular
clubs. I am also very proud of the support offered by our wider pastoral team through interventions such as Forest School and the
Saints Foundation which offer mentoring to support our students with personal development.

Nearly a year ago at my ‘Meet the new Headteacher’ evening, I expressed my intention to broaden the curriculum offer at WSS to
ensure that our students are developing skills for life that will help them prepare for further education and the world of work. I am
pleased to inform you that in September 2025 we will be launching a new wave of courses; Carpentry, Textiles, and Citizenship. In
the future we are looking at how we can deliver other courses such as Bricklaying and Public Services. Exciting times indeed!
Looking ahead to September, we will be welcoming our new year 7 cohort with a record number of families choosing WSS as their
first-choice school.

On a final note, I want to thank you. I have been overwhelmed by your support in my first year as Headteacher at the school.
